Iconic Award Special 2018

In 2018, Felix Schwake received two distinctions במסגרת the ICONIC AWARDS. The “FELIX SCHWAKE BED VI” and the “FELIX SCHWAKE Desk I-I” were both honoured with the “Special 2018” award.

The awarded works follow a reduced architectural attitude in which function, materiality, and spatial atmosphere are understood as interconnected tasks. Both objects emerge from clear geometric orders and consciously avoid decorative overlay.

“BED VI” explores how architecture and interior space can enable calmness, concentration, and spatial intimacy. Functions are fully integrated into the form itself, allowing the object to appear not technical or additive, but as a calm architectural volume. The design focuses on material, proportion, and atmosphere.

“DESK I-I” examines the spatial quality of concentrated work. The reduction of visible elements creates a clear working environment in which thoughts, drawings, and content can move into the foreground. Use and function remain present, yet consciously recede visually.

Both works position themselves between architecture, interior design, and functional art. They are not conceived as decorative individual pieces, but as part of spatial situations. The reduction does not serve formal strictness alone, but rather a deliberate concentration on perception, use, and atmosphere.

The distinction through the ICONIC AWARDS also reflects an international discourse surrounding materiality, permanence, and the responsibility of design toward everyday life and human experience. The focus lies not on visual loudness, but on clarity, precision, and spatial calmness.

The awarded works therefore document a continuous design attitude that understands architecture as a background for life and conceives design not as self-staging, but as the conscious organisation of space and use.
