Space for Art
New Campus Interior Design (B.A.) – AMD Düsseldorf
With the relocation of the Interior Design (B.A.) programme from Platz der Ideen to the campus of Hochschule Fresenius on Franklinstraße, a new teaching location was created — but more importantly, it raises the deliberate question of what spatial conditions foster focused work, discussion, and design-based judgment.
Architecture always acts — even where it withdraws. Spaces shape attention, communication, and perception. The design of the new teaching and learning environment therefore does not aim for external staging, but for the creation of a concentrated background for education and work.
The white sheet of paper on a black table, presentations against dark wall surfaces, or discussions within a deliberately reduced spatial setting direct attention to what is essential: thoughts, content, drawings, models, and arguments. Architecture is understood here not as a decorative object, but as a spatial framework for knowledge, concentration, and exchange.
Especially in education, space is never neutral. It influences how students perceive, work, and develop decisions. The new location is therefore understood as a place where design is not communicated through surfaces, but through attitude, attention, and the deliberate reduction to essentials.
Interior design in this context does not only mean the organization of functions or atmospheres. It means creating spatial conditions that enable independent thinking, discourse, and the development of individual positions.
Special thanks go to tutors Pia Marx, Alina Gudaqi, Pia Berger, and Anna Caillault for their support in planning and implementation, to cabinetmaker Frederik Faber for precise craftsmanship, and to Hochschule Fresenius for enabling this form of teaching and learning environment.

Welcome, dear students!
