Interior Design
Villa Lake Lucerne
The architecture of the villa responds directly to the rugged hillside location at Lake Lucerne. The floor plan develops from the site’s topography and does not follow an abstract geometric imposition, but rather the movement of the terrain itself. Interior and exterior spaces therefore enter into an immediate spatial relationship with one another.
The exposed concrete surfaces within the interior reflect the materiality and atmosphere of the surrounding landscape. The spaces appear restrained, almost carved out of the rock itself. Light, shadow, and material create a spatial atmosphere that combines concentration and calmness with openness and expansiveness.
The interior does not follow a decorative staging. Architecture and furnishing are understood as a unified spatial order. The design concentrates on material, proportion, and atmosphere. Functions are fully integrated, allowing the spaces to appear calm and self-evident.
The works of Felix Schwake consciously position themselves between architecture, interior design, and functional art. Furniture and spatial elements do not emerge as autonomous objects, but as part of the overall atmosphere of the house. The reduction to clear forms does not serve an end in itself, but creates conscious perception and spatial clarity.
The spaces of the villa attempt to unite two seemingly opposing qualities: intimacy and openness. The cave-like materiality of the interiors creates protection and concentration, while views, light guidance, and spatial openness simultaneously generate a sense of freedom.
Architecture is thereby understood not as an image, but as a long-term spatial experience. Particularly in high-end residential architecture, quality does not emerge through decorative overlay, but through precision, material awareness, and the deliberate shaping of atmosphere.
The villa at Lake Lucerne exemplifies an attitude that understands architecture as a background for life. Spaces should not generate permanent attention, but create conditions in which perception, calmness, and everyday life can unfold naturally.
