Winner
Product Design of the Year
In December 2021, Felix Schwake was awarded the “Grand Prix – Product Design of the Year” at the Paris Design Awards in Paris. The winning entry was the “FELIX SCHWAKE DESK MMXX-I”.
The award ceremony took place on 03.12.2021 in Paris and brought together international contributions from architecture, graphic design, landscape architecture, interior design, and product design. Among the awarded participants were works in the context of artist Ai Weiwei, architect Manuelle Gautrand, and designer William Lim.
The awarded desk emerged from a fundamental design question: how can a work environment generate spatial calm instead of visual noise? The starting point was the idea of combining a clear geometric order with precisely integrated function.
The design reduces the workspace to a single coherent volume in space. Functions such as storage, technical integration, and usability are not added as separate elements, but fully embedded within the geometry. This creates a calm and focused working atmosphere in which the object itself recedes, allowing thinking, drawing, and working to take center stage.
The work follows an attitude that does not understand architecture and design as the staging of surfaces, but as the deliberate creation of conditions for perception and use. The statement “architecture must be a background for life” does not describe a formal style, but rather an approach in which spaces and objects are reduced so that concentration, clarity, and use become central.
The international recognition also reflects the relevance of a reduced and material-focused design language that prioritizes durability and precision over short-term visual effects.
