Opening
Permanent Exhibition in Münster

With the opening of the permanent exhibition at “freiraum.” in Münster, works by Felix Schwake were presented permanently within a spatial context that made the relationship between architecture, interior design, and functional art directly experienceable as a coherent overall concept.

The exhibition presented different situations of use — including conference rooms, workspaces, and a bedroom — thereby illustrating the holistic approach that characterizes the work of Felix Schwake. The focus was not placed on the individual furniture object as an isolated design product, but rather on the effect of clearly organized spatial atmospheres.

The presented spaces followed a deliberately reduced architectural language. Clear geometries, calm surfaces, and precisely proportioned furniture created an environment in which function, use, and concentration remained central without appearing visually overloaded.

Particularly within the working and conference environments, the fundamental design approach became evident: technology, organization, and storage were fully integrated into the furniture, allowing calmness and order to remain intact within the space. Functionality remained fully accessible while visually receding into the background.

The bedroom followed the same principle of consistent reduction. Furniture and technical requirements were concentrated to their essentials in order to create a spatial atmosphere defined by clarity, calmness, and restraint.

The exhibition therefore made a central idea within the work of Felix Schwake directly tangible: architecture and interior design should not constantly demand attention, but instead create a calm background for living, working, and perception.

For this reason, the presentation at “freiraum.” understood itself less as a conventional furniture exhibition and more as a spatial investigation into how design can influence atmosphere, concentration, and everyday life.

With the permanent exhibition, Münster gained a permanently accessible place in which the relationship between purist design, functional precision, and architectural calmness could be experienced continuously.
