Summer 2026 exhibition

Designification & AI

The exhibition held as part of the symposium at AMD Düsseldorf was organised by second- and fourth-semester students on the Interior Design B.A. programme. It presented different approaches to design and made the development of the exhibited works visible.

In Mr List’s course, the semester assignment was to design entirely digitally, using artificial intelligence. He discussed this approach in his lecture opening the exhibition.

The second-semester students had, up to that point, encountered design exclusively through analogue methods in their studies with Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Felix Schwake. Without being assigned to do so, they independently developed a counterposition to AI-supported design. They exhibited analogue works alongside their development process, from initial ideas and sketches to the models.

Ms Soumaya Hmissi, Mr Tim Dreckstraeter and Ms Sara Mohammed discussed this approach in their joint contribution, “Speed versus Attitude”. They considered the time invested in developing a work to be a productive part of the design process.

A note on the exhibition day: The exhibition was already set up for the symposium’s opening in the morning. At midday, a summer thunderstorm broke out during Mr List’s lecture, and the exhibits had to be dismantled at short notice.
